What is a hanten jacket?

Hanten jackets originate from Japan during the 18th century. A Japanese hanten is a short coat worn on a daily basis with a warm, padded cotton lining. Hantens are generally a loose, boxy cut with a traditional banding. Unlike most other traditional Japanese fashion, hantens are unisex.

Hantens are similar to happi and kimono jackets, with long sleeves and loose cuts.

The hantens we feature at Nerdtistic Park are Hawaiian-style Hanten Jackets. These jackets are made of a lightweight material and are unlined and not insulated. With their boxy cut, they can be easily layered for cold weather. Hawaiian hanten jackets retain their kimono sleeves and wider collar band. They are worn open or belted.

Hawaiian hanten jackets are very versatile. They are appropriate for everything from the office, hitting the town, or lounging at home. Check out our selection of Hawaiian-style hanten jackets!
